MOSHMAN SIT N GO PROFILE

Moshman talks about Early, Middle, and Late Stage SNG play. He gives the reader a very easy way to understand Chip Equity, Fold Equity, Pott Odds, and how to play the Bubble and go for 1st. He does not advocate becoming too Tight at the Bubble. Some examples of Moshman’s concepts and strategy from the book:

BUBBLE STRATEGY:

“Bubble Play represents a unique opportunity for the solid player to accumulate chips through aggression. This is because many players don’t want to risk a lot of chips just outside the money, and so opponents will often fold even strong hands rather than face a guaranteed gameble for their entire equity”

BLUFFING:

“You should usually refrain from betting with no hand and no draw purley in hopes people will fold, particulary at the lower stakes. With that said, there are few situations where a total bluff may be your best play. One example is when you are the pre-flop aggressor, catch no piece of the flop, and your single opponent shows weakness by checking” “another example occurs in Mid to High Blind play when there is a small pot between a limper and yourself in the bigblind”

Moshman also clearly explains the reasons for going for 1st at all times. Yes 2nd place is a win, but your ROI is much better when you hit 1st in SNG games. He talks allot about playing Bigblindsize versus your Stacksize during the Bubble and Late Stages.

He gives and summarizes many plays encountered in the SNG game.

As an example of how Moshman’s Book translates to PPL code, the following examples are given:
(only 2 examples will be given to remain “Brief”. I recommend you purchase this book)
———————————————————————————————-
So Moshman’s Book reads like this format:

Blinds: 100-200 – 6players

Your Hand: You (stacksize 1400) are in the button with Q9 suited
Action to you: All Fold to the Cutoff (stacksize 3000) who raises 500

Question: What is your move?

Answer: Fold. You have a decent hand and are nearing short-stacked status, so a raise or re-steal is tempting. However, your opponent will not fold for another 900. The pot odds would be too high, and the blow not crippling enough, for even the most conservative player to make a lay down here. Furthermore, your hand is likely to be an underdog to a pair or better high card hand. The aggressive instinct is a good one, but choose your spots carefully.

IN PPL CODE:

When Bigblindsize = 200 and Opponentsattable = 5 and stacksize = 7 and Inbutton and (hand = Q9suited) and raises = 1 and lastraiserposition = 3 and amounttocall > 2 fold force
—————————————————————————————–
Blinds: 100-200 6 players
Your Hand: You (stacksize 2100) have A3 suited and your in the Small Blind.

Action to you: All fold to the button who raises 500

Question: What is your move?

Answer: Reraise – All In. This is an obvious steal raise, and you have a decent hand. Most players hate being re-stealed when on a steal, and will fold unless pot-committed. If you do get called you are not wores than a 2-to-1 underdog with your suited Ace unless your opponent has precisely pocket aces. Against Kings or Ace-Jack you are still nearly 2-to-1 to win the pot.

IN PPL CODE:

When Bigblindsize = 200 and (insmallblind) and Opponentsattable = 5 and (hand = A3suited) and raises = 1 and lastraiserposition = 2 and amounttocall >2 raisemax force
————————————————————————————————————-
The book offers many playing examples as above covering EARLY, MIDDLE, and LATE stages.

By using “StilltoAct” to define our position and “LastRaiserPostion” to define the raiser’s position, as well as, “BigblindSize” and our “Stacksize” the profile does capture most scenarios talked about in the book.
——————————————————————————–
Moshman talks about “Fold Equity”( Saving your Chips to make larger moves in the LATE stages)
As an example of the profile’s code that represents: MOSHMAN’S FOLD EQUITY CONCEPTS:

When bigblindsize < 80 and Inbutton and (Hand =Q9) and calls = 1 fold force
when bigblindsize < 50 and InBigBlind and (Hand = 22) and calls > 3 fold force
when bigblindsize >399 and (opponentsattable = 2 or opponentsattable = 3) and inbigblind and (Hand = QQ) and raises = 1 and opponentisallin and stacksize > 20 fold force
———————————————————————————
The following are just SOME of the Moshman Concepts that are coded in the profile:

Moshman’s Best Hands – Raise from all positions
Moshman’s Play of JJ
Moshman’s PUSH RANGES from 3BB, 7BB, 10BB and so on
Moshman’s “Concept” Play Preflop by bigblind size
Moshman’s Speculative Hand Play ( 3 rules need to be followed)
Moshman’s Limping AQ and AJ by Stage
Moshman’s Bubble Strategy
Moshman’s Heads Up Strategy
Moshman’s Early, Middle, Late Play
Moshman’s calling Limpers with suited connectors
Moshman’s Flop Equity Plays

TESTING:

In the Book, Moshman constantly references $109 Sit N Go’s. That stake was not tested.
Also, Moshman does not directly separate 6MAX, 10MAX, 9MAX or DON. He talks about all different types of SNG, but does not really go into what plays are for what “type” of SNG game. He gives overall winning “concepts” and allot of exact play of hands and why you would play them that way. So the challenge was finding where this thing would do best. I have come to the conclusion, that this Profile does best at Full Ring 9 person games mid stake to high stake. 6max DON and 9max Triple Up success noted as well.

————————————————————————-

BUSTING:

I did BUST on several games as this IS still poker. Just about EVERY Bust I had was on the Bubble going for 1st Place.
The Transaction History does not Show Busts.

It was tested at Bodog and Cake when Cake had US players.
I am sure Moshman’s concepts will play universally well over all poker sites.

Overall play from all feedback is it plays best at MEDIUM to HIGH STAKED SNG FULL RING 9 person games.

(Remember: You stil make RAKE INCOME with SNG play.)

RECOMMEND USING THE PROFILE TO PLAY THE FIRST 40 MINUTES OR SO OF MID TO HIGH STAKE SNG GAMES. THIS PROFILE IS BEST USED BY SOMEONE WHO CAN PLAY POKER. IF YOU CAN PLAY AND FINISH THEN YOU CAN TAKE
ADVANTAGE OF THIS. THE PROFILE STAYS IN EVERY GAME USUALLY. I ALWAYS CATCH IT AFTER 45 MINUTES OR SO AND FIND 5 PLAYERS AND A STACK AROUND 1900 TO PLAY WITH…..SOMETIMES 3000 SOMETIMES 989…BUT I TAKE IT FROM THERE AND FINISH. I PLAY MEDIUM AND HIGHER STAKED GAMES. SO THE FIRST BB LEVELS ARE REALLY BORING TO ME. SO I USE THIS TO GRIND TO THE POINT I CAN HAVE FUN TAKING THE POT. PLACING IN $30 SNG GAMES IS NICE AND I DO IT FREQUENTLY. GOT TIRED OF GRINDING MICRO’S…NEEDED MORE THRILL…MORE FINISHING POWER

WITH THAT SAID…….. AND IN THE INTEREST OF FULL DISCLOSURE:

1. THE PREFLOP IS 100% ORIGINAL PPL CODE ACCURATE TO MOSHMAN’S BOOK.
2. USER VARIABLES ARE USED TO DEFINE HAND RANGES AND BOARD STATES BUT THEY ARE NOT OVERLY USED.
3. THE FLOP IS 35% DIRECT CODE FROM THE BOOK.
4. I USED SOME OF “LUCKY1’S” AND “DOODLEMTT” FLOP, TURN, AND RIVER SECTION CODE AS IT ALIGNED WELL WITH MOSHMAN’S CONCEPTS. I HAD TO CHANGE SOME OF THEIR CODE TO FIT MOSHMAN’S CONCEPTS. BUT BECAUSE OF GREAT CODERS LIKE LUCKY1 WHO OPENLY OFFER THEIR WORK FOR FREE, TO PEOPLE LIKE ME, I CANNOT SAY THANK YOU ENOUGH. IT WAS A BIG TIME SAVER.

Bottom line:

This is NOT my Strategy. This is Moshman’s Strategy.
